Atlantic Canyons

Dates 2013-10-01
Description Marine canyons provide a means of transporting anthropogenic pollutatns, organic carbon and sediments from shallow to deeper waters. Unfortunately, the diversity, community ecology, and degree of connectivity of marine canyons are not well reported in the literature. Even less is known about the macro- and meiofauna that reside within these ecosystems, despite their importance as bio-indicators of stress and disturbance. These animals are highly sensitive to environmental change and can be examined to understand disturbance impacts. They are important barometers for ecosystem health.
