Description:
Abstract:
Chirp sub-bottom data were collected by the U.S. Geological Survey in August of 2019 in Lake Crescent, Washington.
Purpose:
Chirp sub-botttom data were acquired during USGS field activity 2019-622-FA in August of 2019. The survey was conducted in Lake Crescent, Washington. Geophysical mapping was conducted to investigate earthquake triggered mass transport deposits as part of the Cascaadia Earthquake recurrence project. These data and information are intended for science researchers, students, policy makers, and the general public.
Supplemental_Information:
Additional information about the field activity or activities from which these data were derived is available online at:

Native_Data_Set_Environment:
For the chirp data acquisition, an Edgetech 512i chirp towfish was towed several meters below the sea surface from the stern of the vessel. Shearwater Reveal 4 (seismic processing software) was used to convert the SEG-Y navigation to UTM zone 10N.

Data_Quality_Information:
Attribute_Accuracy:
Attribute_Accuracy_Report:
Quality control was conducted during acquisition. Some seismic profiles have gaps in them due to system crashes or intentional shutdowns. Minor swell can be observed in this unprocessed chirp data.
Logical_Consistency_Report:
Quality control was conducted during acquisition and processing to ensure consistency of SEG-Y header navigation and seismic-reflection data that matches bathymetry along the tracklines.
Completeness_Report:
Dataset is considered complete for the information presented, as described in the abstract. Users are advised to read the rest of the metadata record carefully for additional details.
Positional_Accuracy:
Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy:
Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Report:
The chirp positional data was provided by a Hemisphere V110 series (Differential GPS) positioning system with a manufacturer’s stated accuracy of 0.6 meters (95 percent ). Accuracies of final products may be lower due to total propagated uncertainties of the mapping systems, which include position and motion compensation system, navigation and the chirp source layback from the stern of the vessel.

Process_Step:
Process_Description:
Raw SEG-Y format seismic shots were imported into Shearwater Reveal 4 (seismic software) and navigational data was converted to UTM zone 10N and stored in header bytes 81 ad 85. SEG-Y files were named 2019-622-FA.chirp.###.segy where ### is the line number and 2019-622-FA is the USGS survey identifier. SEG-Y files were zipped into the file 2019-622-FA.chirp.segy.zip .
