Abstract:
This part of USGS Data Series 935 (Cochrane, 2014) presents bathymetry and topography data for the Offshore of Seattle, California, map area, a part of the Southern Salish Sea Habitat Map Series. The data for this map area are a combination of topography extracted from a pre-existing Digital Elevation Model (DEM) merged with bathymetry data that were collected by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) using multibeam sonar systems. The merged data are available for download in a single zip file (BathyTopo_OffshoreSeattle.zip).
Purpose:
These data are intended for science researchers, students, policy makers, and the general public. These data can be used with geographic information systems or other software to identify bathymetric features.

Bathymetry data were downloaded from the NOAA National Center for Environmental Information for surveys F00568, H11025, H11605, H11188, H11040, H11039, H11038, H11375, and H12025 in the Offshore of Seattle map area. Users are advised to read the metadata for each source data file fully to understand the parameters for each data collection event. Once all the bathymetric-surface models were transformed to a common projection and datum, the files were combined into one overall 2-m-resolution bathymetric-surface model, merged with onshore elevation data from Finlayson (2005), and clipped to the boundary of the map area. Difference calculations of the overlapping bathymetry grids showed that there is good agreement between surveys, even though the data were collected at different times.
