Abstract:
This portion of the data release presents major, minor and trace element data of rock samples collected from Von Damm vent field, Mid Cayman Rise, in the Caribbean Sea. These data were collected in 2020 (USGS Field Activity 2020-602-FA).
Purpose:
These data serve to expand the knowledge and statistics for deep ocean marine mineral occurrences and composition within the global ocean.

All geochemistry data were calibrated against certified reference materials. The instruments and techniques used to generate the geochemical data are included in the data table. Limits for each analyte's detection by an instrument are reported in the table. The value -8888 indicates that the measurement for an analyte was below the detection limit. The value -7777 indicates that the value was above the technique limit. Values of -9999 for concentration attributes indicate that no analysis was performed. Values of NaN and -9999 for method and detection limit attributes respectively indicate that no information was available. For this dataset, the Certified Reference Material used include OREAS753, 680, 13b, all by Ore Research and Exploration Pty Ltd, and Mount Pleasant (MP)-2a, by Natural Resources Canada. Accuracy is better than 5 percent for all elements except for As, V, and Hg, for which accuracy was better than 10 percent, and Te, which was 10.7 percent.

The horizontal accuracy for each sample was obtained from the ROV's Ultra Short Baseline Positioning System (USBL) navigation after calibration to the CASIUS (Calibration of Attitude Sensors In USBL Systems) calibration system. Accuracy for this depth is approximately 10- 20 m.
