Description:
Abstract:
High-resolution multichannel minisparker seismic-reflection data were collected by the U.S. Geological Survey and the University of Washington in February of 2017 west of Seattle in Puget Sound and in Lake Washington, Washington. Data were collected aboard University of Washington’s R/V Clifford A. Barnes during USGS field activity 2017-612-FA using a 500 Joule SIG 2-mille minisparker sound source and recorded on a 48 channel Geometrics digital hydrophone streamer. Sub-bottom acoustic penetration spans several hundreds of meters and is variable by location.
Purpose:
Data were acquired to support the USGS Coastal and Marine Hazards and Resources Program’s earthquake, tsunami, and landslide active margin field studies to aide hazard assessment of the Seattle Fault zone in central Puget Sound and Lake Washington. Data were collected to characterize recent deformation and estimate earthquake recurrence on the Seattle Fault zone. These data and information are intended for science researchers, students from elementary through college, policy makers, and general public.
Supplemental_Information:
Additional information about the field activities from which these data were derived is available online at:

Process_Description:
Multichannel minisparker seismic-reflection data were collected using a 48-channel Geometrics digital hydrophone streamer and a 500-Joule SIG 2-mille minisparker sound source. Processing steps include: conversion from SEG-D to SEGY format, geometry, trace kills, bandpass filter, FK filter of Ferry noise, velocity analysis, AGC, trace balance, spherical divergence gain, normal moveout, minimum phase Butterworth filter (80-550 Hz), stack, time varying post-stack deconvolution, bandpass filter, migration and water column mute. Navigation was converted from seconds of arc to UTM zone 10N.
