Description:
Abstract:
High-resolution single channel minisparker seismic-reflection data were collected by the U.S. Geological Survey and the Alaska Department of Fish and Game in May 2014 in southern Prince William Sound southwest of Chenega and from southwest of Montague Island, Alaska. Data were collected aboard the Alaska Department of Fish and Game vessel, R/V Solstice, during field activity 2014-622-FA, using a 500 Joule SIG 2-mille minisparker sound source and a single channel streamer and recorded with a Triton SB-Logger.
Purpose:
This work was funded by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Coastal and Marine Hazards and Resources Program (CMHRP) Marine Geohazards Project and the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADFG). The high-resolution seismic-reflection profiles of bedrock, sediment deposits, and tectonic structure provide geologic information that is essential to hazard assessment, regional sediment management, and coastal and marine spatial planning at Federal, State, and local levels, as well as to future research on the geomorphic, sedimentary, tectonic, and climatic record of southeastern Alaska. These data and information are intended for science researchers, students from elementary through college, policy makers, and the general public.
Supplemental_Information:
Additional information about the field activities from which these data were derived is available online at:

Process_Step:
Process_Description:
Seismic-reflection data were collected using a minisparker system that creates an acoustic signal by discharging a 500-Joule, high voltage pulse between electrodes and a ground that generates a frequency spectrum between 400 and 1,000 Hz. Data were acquired using a single channel digital hydrophone streamer and recorded in SEG-Y 32-bit floating point using a Triton SB-Logger.

Process_Step:
Process_Description:
Seismic-reflection data were processed using SIOSEIS software. Seismic lines 1-5 and 60-98 are minimally processed (due to limited visible structure beneath a hard seafloor) with a zero phase bandpass filter that limits the spectrum to 120 and 800 Hz. Seismic lines 6-59 and 99-138 are fully processed; zero phase band pass filter from 120-800Hz, added a manual water bottom time pick for each trace from Kingdom Suite, swell removal over 25 traces, three trace running record mix, water column mute, a second zero phase bandpass filter from 120-800Hz, and applied a full-trace automatic gain control.
