Abstract:
To determine continued change to the shoreface morphology and evolution at Seven Mile Island, New Jersey, scientists from the U.S. Geological Survey St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center (USGS SPCMSC) in St. Petersburg, Florida, conducted a single-beam bathymetric survey of Seven Mile Island, New Jersey, from April 29 - May 2, 2022. During this study, single-beam bathymetry data were collected using a personal watercraft (PWC) and a floating-towed-seismic sled. Both the PWC and the seismic sled were outfitted with high precision Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receivers, motion reference units, and survey grade single-beam echosounders.
Purpose:
The purpose of this data release is to archive the bathymetric data and associated files collected off Seven Mile Island from April 29 - May 2, 2022, during Field activity number (FAN) 2022-309-FA; subFANs 22BIM05 (research vessel [R/V] Sallenger towing a floating seismic-sled) and 22BIM03 (R/V Chum – WVR2). The dataset, Seven_Mile_Island_2022_SBES_WGS84_UTM18N_xyz.zip provides single-beam bathymetry data points (x,y,z) referenced to World Geodetic System 1984 (WGS84) Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) Zone 18 North (N) for the horizontal (x,y) and WGS84 ellipsoid height for the vertical (z). The datasets, Seven_Mile_Island_2022_SBES_NAD83_NAVD88_UTM18N_GEOID18_xyz.zip and Seven_Mile_Island_2022_SBES_NAD83_NAVD88_UTM18N_GEOID12B_xyz.zip provides single-beam bathymetry data points (xyz) referenced to North American Datum of 1983 (NAD83) UTM Zone 18N for the horizontal (x,y,z) and North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88) orthometric height using GEOID18 and GEOID12B models, respectively, for the vertical (z).

For the single-beam bathymetry data, the differential positioning was obtained through post-processing the base station data to the rovers. The dataset was transformed from the initial WGS84 (G2139) UTM 18N datum to NAD83 UTM 18N NAVD88, using the GEOID18 model and the GEOID12B model (National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration [NOAA] and the National Geodetic Survey [NGS] VDatum software version 4.4.2 -
