Bedform Sedimentology Site: “Bedforms and Cross-Bedding in Animation”
FIG. 56. Structure formed by straight-crested longitudinal bedforms with superimposed, sinuous, out-of-phase transverse bedforms.
RECOGNITION: In sections parallel to the main bedform crestlines, this structure looks like simple climbing-ripple structures, whereas in sections normal to the main bedform crestlines, the structure appears to have been deposited by vertically stacked bedforms.
ORIGIN: As with other longitudinal bedforms, formation of this structure requires the unusual situation where sediment is transported into a depositional area without migration of the bedforms in that area.
