Principal Investigator(s): Karen L M Morgan

Affiliate Investigator(s):

Information Specialist(s): Joseph Long

Data Type(s): Imagery: Photo, Imagery: Video, Location-Elevation: Navigation

Scientific Purpose/Goals: Pre-storm Survey of the Chandeleur Islands and the berm being built adjacent to it. Conduct baseline/pre-storm survey of Dauphin Island and its berms.

Vehicle(s): None

Start Port/Location: St Petersburg, FL/Mobile AL

End Port/Location: St Petersburg, FL

Start Date: 2010-07-24

End Date: 2010-07-24

Equipment Used: Digital Camera, Digital Video, GPS

Information to be Derived: Oblique Air Photos

Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: Surveyed the Chandeleur Islands, LA and Dauphin Island, AL in anticipation of TS Bonnie making landfall in that area. Bonnie did not intensify after crossing Florida, thus there was not a lot of change in the islands or on the berm adjacent to the Chandeleurs. Large “dunes”, sand piled are the edge of the surf zone and along the road to help protect the developed areas of Dauphin Island were also surveyed. The MS barriers were not surveyed due to the approaching storm system. Ground truth pictures were acquired on Dauphin Island before returning to St Petersburg.

Notes: The S-video Cable malfunctioned again, giving black and white pictures. K. Morgan was able to stress the cable so that it gave color pictures for the flight.
