Information to be Derived: Subbottom data, sidescan sonar, and navigation

Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) mapped approximately 22 square miles of the Madison Swanson Marine Protected Area (MPA) and Steamboat Lumps MPA, which are located on the Florida shelf edge in the northeastern Gulf of Mexico in 2000 using sidescan sonar and high-resolution chirp seismic-reflection systems. This survey was conducted as part of a larger study of the effectiveness of no-fishing reserves in protecting grouper spawning aggregations.

Documents associated with this activity

Title Survey Equipment Description
Cruise logs (document not focused on specific equipment) The zip file ((2000-005-FA_logbooks.zip) contains several logbooks. One is an Excel spreadsheet that has logged information for all the systems on the cruise.
Sidescan/Chirp log SIS1000 Sidescan sonar Contains the notes and information pertaining to the ISIS acquisition system, which records the data from the SIS1000 towfish. The SIS1000 system acquires sidescan sonar data and Chirp seismic-reflection data. This PDF is contained in the 2000-005-FA_logbooks.zip file (available from https://doi.org/10.5066/F7JD4TVC). Also available from cotuit.
2000-005-FA_seis.pdf Boomer Contains the notes and information associated with the boomer seismic system. This system was only used briefly, and the data were not saved due to the poor quality of the data. This PDF is contained in the 2000-005-FA_logbooks.zip file (available from https://doi.org/10.5066/F7JD4TVC) as well as from cotuit.
Navigation log DGPS Contains the notes and information associated with the navigation system. This PDF is contained in the 2000-005-FA_logbooks.zip file available from (https://doi.org/10.5066/F7JD4TVC) as well as from cotuit.
