Description of the movies

Four fly-by movies of the La Jolla Submarine Canyon in Southern California are available on this page. The seafloor was generated from multibeam bathymetry data collected by the U.S. Geological Survey, SCRIPPS Institute of Oceanography, and California State University, Monterey Bay, Seafloor Mapping Lab. The land region was generated by either SPOT/Landsat satellite imagery drapped over USGS DEM's or publicly available, color-coded interferometric radar data (Note: there is a USGS, Seafloor Mapping Project processing error in the SPOT/Landsat imagery along the coast).

Two movies fly up the canyon (offshore to onshore). One has the SPOT/Landsat imagery for land while the other has the color-coded interferometric radar data. Also, two movies fly down the canyon (onshore to offshore). One one has the SPOT/Landsat imagery for land while the other has the color-coded interferometric radar data.

Note: These MPEG movies are very large (25 - 27 mb) and may take minutes to download. Movies are a non-standard part of the internet and may not load for all viewers.
