Kathryn Smith with the EMRG project is deploying and collecting net sediment tiles (NST), shoreline positions, and deploying and retrieving sensors (4 AquaTrolls, 4 RBRs, 4 RuggedTrolls, 1 BaroTroll; combined value ~$30,000) measuring wave height, turbidity, and water level data with Grand Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (GBNERR). Plan is to use GBNERR staff and vessel as often as possible. The study will evaluate the impact of a living shoreline on shoreline erosion and sediment transport. NST will be deployed in Nov 2021 and will be deployed and collected approximately quarterly for 1 year.
This is a continuation of 2020-301-FA where data were collected prior to the installation of a living shoreline.
21CCT01 (Aug 2-5 2021) - (KELS) Deploy net sediment tiles and sensors. Also collect elevation and positional data for marsh features.
21CCT02 (Aug 2-5 2021) - (CGS) Collect sediment push cores not obtained during 18CCT09 if time allows for geochronologies.
21CCT03 (Sept 27-Oct 1 2021) - (KELS) Retrieve and redeploy net sediment tiles and sensors post Hurricane Ida (hit 8/29/21). Collect shoreline, elevation and positional data for marsh features.
21CCT04 (Nov 15-19) - (KELS) Retrieve sensor platforms, install well.
21CCT05 (Dec 13-17) - (KELS) Retrieve and redeploy net sediment tiles and sensors. Collect RTK elevation and positional data for marsh features and estuarine sites, deploy sensor platforms.

21CCT04: Joseph Terrano and Kathryn Smith will drive from St Petersburg to Grand Bay, MS to retrieve sensors deployed during 21CCT03 (2 AquaTrolls, 2 RBRs), install 1 well with sensor (1 RuggedTroll), modify existing structures/mounts as needed, and collect RTK at sites. Data to be used to measure quarterly marsh accretion, shoreline change, and for model inputs.
