Summary

This data release contains sediment core data including X-ray Computed Tomography (CT) scans, photos, and multi-sensor core logger (MSCL) data. Sediment cores were collected along the Cascadia Subduction Zone (offshore northern California, Oregon and Washington) during U.S. Geological Survey cruise 2022-653-FA aboard the M/V Bold-Horizon. The cores were collected to evaluate potential hazards (e.g., active fault systems, slope instabilities, large earthquake recurrence) and understand geologic processes on the seabed. The cores were analyzed at the U.S. Geological Survey, Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center core laboratory to enable a detailed investigation of Cascadia's geologic history and ongoing activity. These data and information are intended for science researchers, students, policy makers, and general public.

Sampling Data

  • Information on sediment cores collected offshore Cascadia, during field activity 2022-653-FA

This dataset presents core information such as core IDs, section numbers, lengths, depth intervals, and locations from sediment cores collected in Cascadia (offshore northern California, Oregon, and Washington) aboard the M/V Bold Horizon September 2022. An inventory of core section computed tomography (CT), multi-sensor core logger (MSCL), and photograph scan files available in this data release are listed here.
