The U.S. Geological Survey Pacific Seafloor Mapping Project in cooperation with the National Park Service and the University of New Hampshire mapped Crater Lake, OR in July-August 2000. The purpose was to generate a much higher-resolution and geographically accurate bathymetric map than was produced in 1959, the last time the lake had been surveyed. Scientific interest in various aspects of Crater Lake (aquatic biology, geochemistry, volcanic processes, etc.) has increased during the past decade and a new high-resolution basemap of the bathymetry was greatly needed.
